Hi, What is lowest recommended temperature at night time when over wintering Western Hermann's?
Thanks

my tort room doesn't drop much below 18c at night but is usually around 20c, I know it can go a lot lower but I find if the room stays warm the torts are far more alert in the morning. If they are allowed to get really cold (which won't harm) they take a long time to appear the next day and as mine aren't hibernating I try to imitate warm summer nights as well as days.

Same here. if it's quite cold outside it can get to about 17c in the room but usually it's about 19c. the heater is a storage heater so can't change the temps quickly. As said above the colder it's allowed to get at night it will affect their behaviour the next day or maybe more than a day

If its below 15C on a regular basis this will have a definite slowing effect on the tortoises. They can cope with much lower temperatures of course but as you are wanting to keep them going I'd suggest not going below 15C. If it was up at 20C they will be fine with that too.

My night temps were dropping to about 13c. So I bought them an infra bulb and it does the trick nicely, temps are now about 19-21c xx
The newbies have a 150 watt bulb and Ronni and Reggie have a 75 watt. They are in different rooms.

Yes the house I live gets cold at night too. We have the heating off while we sleep and the room my tortoises are in has dropped to around 15C at night and it hasn't really dropped below 0C outside yet this winter I will have to consider having the heating on at night... The trouble with that is it keeps me awake.

I had thought of that but my babies often sleep in different places... I suppose I could move them near the bulb at night?

Mine do to sometimes. But the 150watt bulb heats up quite a big area, almost half of the enclosure
