Default A stressful beginning that can only get better!

After 2 years of researching, learning, talking to people and developing further my experience through Dragons i finally got my Indian Star thursday evening after a mad rush from seeing his advert as 8pm

I was told his wet nose was from diving into the water dish which he did in front of me and that 1 of the 3 babies he was housed with had done the same a while back, blown bubbles a bit and then been fine since which would teach them for snorting water

He was running around the vivarium a lot quicker than i expected any tort to go seemingly healthy so i said my thank you's and started the 20-30 minute journey home.

Just after we arrived home he blew bubbles again even under the heat lamp i had turned up a little to dry him out and started also sneezing which shocked me as it made us jump over the sound of the tv from across the room so i emailed the lady i brought him from to explain and let her know i would be taking him to the vet if there was no change by morning just incase it wasnt an allergy or stress.

Leaving him on his tort table under his heat overnight made no difference what so ever and his sneezes were now startling him so he retracted his head into his shell with each one.

My reptile specialist vet who see's my dragons agreed to see me at 3.30 after his appointments and when he could finally take a look at him at 4pm diagnosed an upper and lower RI which he is being treated with via injections with a 2 week course of anti biotics.

I updated the seller with what had been said, that she should havee the 3 babies still for sale looked at as they were housed with him and she had mentioned the seemingly nothing bubbles once from 1 of them, also asking for a partial refund towards these unexpected vet costs less than 24 hours after having him and any future costs should the first course not work and was told there was nothing wrong with the tort, my vet just wanted cash and basically where to go

My gorgeous boy affectionately called doorstop (family joke from MIL's Herman) until we find him a name is currently on his table keeping warm, sulking because of his first jab yesterday, resting and generally recovering from his ordeal - as am i

I only hope now he has the best care he will be fine, his prev owners attitude was a 1 off and my experience of these beauties i have patiently waited so long to own is from here on out a much better one

Meet Doorstop......

Yes upper and lower.

He put his finger under his chin and explained it was there you could feel the difference.

We discussed that I had read on here Baytril wasn't so effective in stars and they can have allergies too do are using Marbacyl (spelling?).

We also discussed stars being funny with oral meds on their food and how nose drops aren't any good for lower RI so he has needles every other day for 2 weeks (started Friday).

The most discusting thing is knowing this boy is sick the 3 babies he was housed with are still for sale!!!

What was he looking for/could tell that it was upper and lower was he looking for something in particula?r, actulley i'm suprised he could feel under his chin, mine tuck their heads in and you need a crow bar to get them out :0)

did you/vet consider using a nebuliser?

your right about baytril avoid at all costs not recommended for stars a lot of keepers have advised that, thnk i read it somewhere also.

did the seller have others apart from the 3? what was their reason for selling?

Lets know how you get on.
