Hey Pixie Egg,
I don't have any advise, apart from carry on with all that you are doing and the advise you ahve already had. Just wanted to say I know exaclty how you feel, you are not a lone... I have 1 tort that eats and is active 100% of the time and another thats has a week here and there being "normal" and then he just won't eat hides away etc I've had him nearly 4 years... It is a worry but I just figured that, that is the way he is and just different from my other. I still try new things to perk him up. I think you're doing a grand job stick with it . Row xx |

If it where my tort I think I would keep bathing daily in nice warm water, lower the temp slightly, and then leave her to find her own way. I would keep a close eye (not handle) on her & weigh her once a week. If her weight is maintained then thats great if not then you need to re-think.
Some torts take ages to settle down, handling them and checking them out all the time can make a timid/shy tort want to just hide away. One of mine whos 4 is very shy & timid she hides away all the time so all I do is bath her then put her strait back in the table she then scurries away as fast as she can. the other 2 are far more friendly. this is just my opinion so good luck, just give her more time sue |

So it seems I could just have a quiet tort? I handle as little as possible. My other comes over for me to get him out so he has a run about on the floor. Ed has her bath and then put back in the table.
It's nice to know i'm not the only one with a quiet tort. I read about all the antict's your lot get up and am always a bit saddened. I know I shouldn't be (and I am happy for you at the same time!). I just want Ed to be happy as possible. I honestly don't think she's poorly. Just very very quiet. And there's been no weight loss for months now so that must be a good sign?

The fact that she isn't losing weight is a really good sign, don't beat yourself up hun, you are doing everything you can for her

My tort is just the same! Pickle runs round the enclosure causing destruction and eating everything in sight and Cheese takes forever to wake up, goes to be early, wanders slowly round occasionaly and the rest of the time basks under the heat lamp or hides under the log.
She also hasnt put on any weight since i had her whereas Pickle has grown by 6 grams. I think she is just shy and doesnt like to eat too much. She has been checked by the vets several times and there is nothing wrong with her so theres not much else i can do really. She's even worse outside, she just sits there or attempts to find somewhere to hide. Its nice to know that maybe its not unusual to have a slow shy tort. x |

Thanks everyone. Is is nice to know we're not alone isn't it?
I MIGHT stop worrying so much. She's outside now. Peeping out the hut. Gonna get a lower wattage lamp today and see how we go. Just hope my other tort doesn't take a disliking to it. It is fustrating though since I know she's healthy otherwise. Good news is that the little growth she's made is super smooth. X

Yep i've tested for everything. Passing normal urate's (posted a pic to make sure) the poo's aren't runny and a nice pellet type shape, fairly hard. Only worrying thing she's done is some wierd walking with big movements but it only lasted two days and that was weeks ago. X

Clutching at straws too but what's her uv like? I'm not sure if it's a combined bulb you have? Also does she get outside much; this can make a huge difference to her behaviour. A bit of good natural sunlight really perks them up.
