not always but most of the time shiny leaves are a good indication that they are not any use for torts

Ooh thats very good to know. Does the same apply to spikey thin leaves? I'm sure I read that somewhere but have spent that long researching weeds and flowers my head is spining and nothing is sinking in! X

It might be the case, I've not heard of that one though. I can't actually think of any long thin leaves that are edible apart from slender plantain but there might be loads more or none at all

.. actually I've thought of another, thrift (armeria) though the leaves are so thin that they are just like grass and also they are shiny
However it looks more like a grass clump than a plant with leaves. My torts love it. I saw them in B+Q tonight, 2 for a fiver
