Default Night temperatures

Hi, My Horsfield, Pushkin aged 10, is going to stay in our greenhouse whilst I am away for the next week. He has a tunnel into his weed garden. I am concerned about low night temperatures. What is a safe minimum night temperature, please? He will be fed daily by a neighbour. We are in Essex.

Thanks,

I'm not sure what would be considered safe but I am still bringing mine in at nights because last week we were getting -1 and at best +4 at nights, this week the best we've had has been +5. What the forecast says and what actually happens is not always the same and also their forecast is for air temps whereas the torts may get a couple more degrees better than that if buried or under cover. I am 400 miles north of you but 3 weeks ago I was in Newmarket and it was minus temps at night, white frost on the grass in the morning. I let mine stay out only if temps have been +10 for a few nights in a row just to be on the safe side.

Thanks,
He will be fine, my tortoises have been in there GH unheated for the last few weeks. As long as it does not go below 5c in an exposed area then he will be fine.
Horsfields in the wild can stand much lower temps than most think.
I keep ibera and they do fine in an unheated GH, or if they dig in outside under a plant I leave them there. My tortoises can come and go as they please. I live in Kent so not so far away:0)
The only time to be concerned is if there is a frost, but here frosts will be light if any at all:0)

mine are all out too. no one is heated. ive checked weather in your region and its going to be around 12'c @ 07.00hrs so he will be fine and dandy. Hot hot hot all week so your concern may be the GH too hot ! have a lovely time. CB

South East Scotland. It's currently 12c out there just now and 8c forecast overnight. It was quite hot today here too but it's night time temps that are cold. By Thursday it's to be back to 6c

Lovely day in Glasgow today - sunny and 20C. With the sun being out this is great tortoise weather.
