Humidity and ventilation

Hi can anyone advise me please I am slightly confused

I am looking at redfoots I have been to several exotic centres and spoke to a local breeder and am still confused. I know that RF need humidity and higher levels, but what about ventilation? Silly question but how do you keep the humidity high if its ventilated? Also what would you advise as substrate? From what I have read and been told it appears that this is personal preference but I dont know and want to get things right.

Our redfoot viv has normal vents like any other viv

the water on the substrate keeps the humidity up even with the ventilation, it will stay humid even if he comes out for a wander and his door is open. I use a mixture of repti-bark and soil as a substrate and have moss dotted about which soaks up the water and helps keep the humidity up

Thanks for that its such a mine field! Have been looking for months now think I just have everything covered and someone throws me a curve ball LOL

am working on the assumption its like having children, trial ans error

I would rather have more kids than some of my reptiles it's easier lol they can be so complicated and confusing! I've had them for ten years and still get confused at some stuff so don't worry

You will soon get to know what works and what doesn't and what will work in your tank

As long as there is an exchange of air that is all the ventilation you need. Some like to take it to an extreme.

Substrate... any kind of mulch... orchid bark... as long as it hold moisture.

Is spagnum moss ok to use. Was thinking of putting some in my Leopard and Yellow foots viv to help humidity.
