If he is a hermanns then he should have come with an article 10 certificate (yellow form).
If he is a horsfield then he would havent have any paperwork, as they are not a protected speices yet. A picture would help us ID him/her for you.

Well it looks like a hermanns to me, so should have come with a certificate.
You need to go back to the place where you got him, and ask for the cetificate, otherwise you will have problems later on with DEFRA when it comes to breeding etc. Its against the law to sell endangered speices without the paperwork. Sorry

Hi Rachael30b
If you have no joy with the pet shop I would be inclined to go to your local trading standards offoice who might be very interested that they are selling tortoises illegally without their article 10 paperwork. Keep us updated. Definately a herman tortoise. Ade

rachel if you have bought the tortoise in good faith and are being upfront and honest to DEFRA you should be ok and they hopefully won't take the tortoise away especially if they can see it's in a loving home now You haven't broken the law, the shop owner has

If you dont recieve the certificate in a week or two at the most, then if I were you I would
phone DEFRA. As the petshop should have the certificates ready when you bought the tortoise. That way you will be covered.
