That's fantastic news, and I don't think you over-reacted at all!

Glad you found him - if he was mine I would now go and raise the height of the pen and put overhangs on the top so they definately can't climb out. I know mine would be able to get out of there as they have climbed much higher obstacles. Good luck.

Please remember to put them out again<g>. As you now know they will bury down and you
can find them<g>.
They just like to keep you on your toes.

I agree with Wizzasmum.

Just over a week ago I lost a 4 year old scl 98mm from an enclosure with 1.5ft sides.
She must have shimmied up the sides, possibly using a larger tortoise to help climb up.

I made an overhang and since Ive had no escapees. I wouldnt take the risk with the log roll you have, personally Id go for the 1ft high roll and create an overhang.

Also worth making a wire mesh top for the pen enclosure for when you are out to protect from birds etc. I might be overreacting but all of my juveniles have a top on all of the time.

Glad you found the tort, I know how it feels to lose one.

and so a happy ending !!!!

Some torotises are just so goof and losing themselves in the smallest space, we almost need to fit "tortoise trackers" to them so when they get lost they are easy to fnd !!!
