Wild Albino Rat???

Hi,

I've had a call from my in laws who have seen an albino rat in their garden.

They'reunsure what to do as they're wondering whether it is a pet one that has escaped......

They have asked for my advice but I'm not sure what to tell them... Could it be a wild albino rat? Are rats chipped? Should they try and catch it?

Not something I'm very clued up on so any help, suggestions would be very helpful.

It is quite unlikely to be wild, it wouldnt survive being white, they could approach and see if it reacts as a wild one, it may look to them for food!!

That's my gut reaction that it can't be wild.... They've seen it twice now. Not sure if they'd want to try and approach it but I can suggest it I guess.

Maybe a humane rat trap, although my mum is using 1 at the moment an caught a hedgehog!!!!!

Last summer I saw a white sparrow fledgling and only the other day I saw a young black rabbit amongst the normal coloured wild ones. It is known in nature but they don't live long as they stand out and are easily spotted by birds of prey.

They could ring the local council pest control and ask them if they have ever seen or caught any albino ones in the area?

A humane trap sounds like a possibility but then if they catch it what will they do with it?

we had a family of rats in the garden and one of them was an albino, pink eyes etc it looked like a gerbil as it was one of the babies, sadly we had to get rid of them as they were in the tort garden. Typically the first one that hubby caught happened to be the albino, we really felt guilty but I doubt it would have survived for long as it stood out like a sore thumb. So there are Albino rats the same as most other animals/birds just a freak of nature.
