Might as well answer here too He is a Moroccan spur-thigh, Testudo graeca marokkensis. They don't get very big and they also don't hibernate. So if you hibernated him for the last 4 years that could be a bit of the problem as to why he hasn't started eating yet.
As said basking spot temperatures should be 32 to 34C, cool end around 24C and night time shouldn't go lower than 20C. Your lights should be on 12 to 14 hours a day. Danny

I would have thought maybe MBD but not if it's getting Nutrobal and UVB. Is the Nutrobal in date? I think the vitamin D3 content starts to go as soon as it's opened and goes off faster if not kept in the dark

WOW! Poor thing, I've been putting, Erm, HIM in a box in a fridge and I thought he was doing so well!! Actually she did start eating ravenously when I brought her out as per usual, it's just tapered off a bit.
I've just thought, if she doesn't hibernate now where will the Christmas tree go?!! I've realised I only ever bought one Nutrobal so that might have something to do with it. I've put a much higher wattage spotlight in for heat so her basking area is much hotter, I've ordered a 10.0 UVB and also some more Nutrobal, so we shall she how she does now. I wonder if I should get her a Fez now!! Thanks for all your help, I'm not sure how to break it to the kids that's Alice is now Alan tho!! |

its good to see that you intend to upgrade your indoor set up,there has been no mention of outdoors!
outside in the sunshine is the best possible tonic. mine have been outside (heated coldframe)since end of march, due to the better weather we have been blessed with.yesterday i was presented with the first eggs of the season. i understand no ones circumstances are all the same but if you can put him outside the rewards will be great! best wishes W |

Looking at photos, wouldn't have thought Tunisian, and, sticking my neck out, would say male The scutes don't look to be a "uniform" shape, not sure if he has any pyramiding at all?

Wigwamman I really wish she could get more outdoor time, but at the moment she has to be supervised the whole time she's out because there's a danger the neighbours dog (or mine, but I doubt it), could get at her. He's already destroyed the run once so it's just not safe.
Also, I can't get power to the garden for a proper set up with house and lights etc so she gets cold very quickly, we just don't have the weather often enough. I worry she gets cold in an afternoon even when it's sunny |
