Default aldabras enjoying the summer

Summer is here and the beasts are having a great time!
plenty to eat , lots of mates & nice warm days - it doesn't get much better in the life of a giant tort !

wooden decking is a great way for them to warm up throughout the day,
With the timber releasing heat as well as the sunshine - the deck area is approx. 15'c warmer than the grass next to it!!

sometimes its just tiring being an aldabra!;

BUT NOW, WE KNOW HOW CROP CIRCLES ARE MADE!;

new fencing going up;

the new field shelter;

time for the periodic weight checks! all are doing nicely & gaining weight slowly & steadily

They are just amazing! I always look forward to your posts. What a wonderful space you have for them. Love the solar panels on their shelter.

Thanks all.
The solar panels are helping to offset the cost of the electricity they use. So every suitable roof surface is being utilized! They currently have 68 electricity producing panels - positioned with some facing east, some south & some west, so that they get electricity throughout the day.
The next project is building a digging arena for them, where the soil is warm & light enough for them to dig into.

Cuddles available by appointment! The best results achieved whilst offering a banana, but be warned, once you start stroking them, they like you to carry on for a while! They are very responsive to stroking & tickling, much more so than the small breeds, as this mimics what would happen in the wild, where small birds would peck at the dead skin & any insects found on them.

Stunning, thanks for sharing. Love all the different areas they have to choose from, especially their field shelter!
