Has my hermann got shell rot?

OK, thats brilliant thanks so much...I cleaned Terrys shell last nite n I woz so worried it mite harm him. How many times a day do you think it needs to be cleaned? Thanks in advance!

I'm also (hopefully) pickin up 2 baby torts saturday morning, I can't wait. Will post pics in the pictures section

Hey Jo,

I would use the solution at least twice a day ie. morning and night. You are still taking him to the vets though aren't you? A shot/course of antibiotics will prevent any possible infection.

Congratulations on your new babies but don't forget to quarantine them from your adult tortoise for at LEAST 6 months (some people suggest a year) to ensure they aren't carrying any disease or parasites. Even when tortoises are checked by a vet and given a clean bill of health, some diseases take a while to become apparent.

If it were me I would bathe once a day, unless there is an actual infection. As over use of
betadine or the like, can cause more problems.

Yea am still takin him to vets, got a day off wrk nxt week.

I won't be introducing the tortoises for at least 2 years. But when I eventually decide to introduce them does it matter if they are different sub species of hermann? Say in ten years time I decide I would like to breed them, is it best not to let this happen between 2 different subspecies? I know its a long way down the line n all that, but im just curious

Not a good idea mixing to sub speices, especially when they are so different.
Hybridising does nothing for the future of tortoises
If you can far better to get another tortoise of the same subspeices if you can<g>.
