I thought a few bits were good, the chimneys and the queen parachuting, but most of it was stupid. I can not believe that we portrayed ourselves to the rest of the world in this way. Money well spent!?!

I found the Industrial Revolution bit a tad tedious. I agree that countries abroad must have been wondering what it was all about. Kenneth Branagh does make Shakespeare sound so beautiful though.
I did like the Queen and James Bond bit and when it started to liven up with the music. We like a bit of Dizzee Rascal in our house! The cauldron is such a clever idea and I loved how they chose to let the young athletes do the honour. All in all I thought it was a bit odd but also funny (so typically British) and I enjoyed staying up to watch it.

Had a great night, it's buzzing round here. Saw Bantam and Middleweights tonight so saw the guy Luke Campbell will fight; Parrinello the Italian. Looked pretty good. Last edited by Kirkie; 29-07-2012 at 12:51 AM. |

I was also fortunate enough to miss it all, I have never seen an opening ceremony of anything in my life, you get all the 'important' bits on the news.
I used to watch the Olympics as a child but as a child you tend to think everyone is genuine, as an adult you realise that it is not the case and that those bearded East German 'ladies' were not telling the truth when they were winning those races back in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I now can't watch an event without wondering if the winner has been 'at it'. It is such a let down when you find out later - sometimes years later as was the case with Marion Jones who was jailed eventually - that all along they have been fraudsters. I had also never ever heard of Danny Boyle |

It was on the local news this morning that one of those who lit the flame lives near me and he hadn't told anyone apart from his mother. His sister and father didn't know. He is supposedly an Olympic star of the future, unfortunately it is sailing that he does
