There are loads of types of thistles. all I can say is that sow thistle and milk thistle are ok. Can you put a picture up? They can eat stinging nettles and red or white dead nettle. I read recently that nettles are quite high in oxalic acid say I wouldn't bother. If you follow this link it has quite a good list although not a complete list of tort foods and there nutritional value. the ones highlighted in red are ideal though be careful with watercress as although it has a good Ca:Ph ratio it is high in oxalic acid. http://home.earthlink.net/~rednine/nutrient.htm Jason |

i dont feed my tortoise them, would have fort they would sting her insides and mouth... let alone me. thistles are ok though especialy sow, milk, etc
its a good idea not to feed tortoises anything red becuase they are generaly the bad things, i mean the actualy colour, anything highlighted in red is obvliousley bad

Read the link properly Gav. The foods highlighted in red are good properly balanced tort foods. Oh and next time I see my tort eating a nice red flower i will make sure i take it away because you said so. Jason |

I'll be glad when half terms over.
Hi Gav, When I reply to something I always try and think a complete novice might be reading this so I try not to be to general. Statements like "anything red is bad" is quite frankly wrong. What is more correct to say is that red leaves are not normally a suitable food. Jason |
