My baby girl got attacked
On Friday evening I was taking my dog for a walk and as we passed by this garden the gate was left open and a staffordshire bullterrier cam running out and attacked my dog. It got hold of her leg and locked on. I managed to get my hand in his mouth to open it and this man pulled the dog away. She has a huge hole in her leg and you could see the bone. There are 3 other holes in her leg, but not as big. I phoned the vet and was told to keep soaking it in salt water and to take her in, in the morning if I was still worried.
Saturday morning came and we rushed her over the vet, her leg was massive. She could not put any weight on it and her temperature was high. She is on metacam and tow different types of antibiotics. We've been back again since and they are keeping an eye on it as the swelling has gone down loads, but the side is still swollen, and they have to keep a check on it incase it becomes soft, as it will need draining. They did not stitch it as they sadi that it would be better to leave it open. I does look horrible though. Poor thing. I was in quite a state as you can imagine and could not speak of it without crying until now. She is alot better now though and is more her old self. |

Thanks Linda, it was quite a shock. She's a baby and while she was getting bitten she kept staring at me, to help her. It was awful. I think I was worse than her after. I'm gonna be scared to take her out again though. I was really lucky, my hand was a bit cut and it was very swollen, but it just has some bruising on it now.

MY sister inlaws rough collie was attacked by a staffie and was bitten around the neck, that was a totally unprovoked attack, she too had large holes and needed antibiotics, thankfully she made a full recovery.
I don't blame the dog I blame the owner, any owner of an unsociable dog should keep it on a lead and muzzle it if necessary. Hope your dog gets well soon. |

What an awful experience for both you and your poor dog. Staffies can be the most lovable dogs but an untrained/unsocialised one can be quite dangerous. It's such a shame people buy these as status symbols and then let them run wild. In the right hands, they can be a wonderful companion. Hope your dog mends soon
