The attached picture, taken back in 2005, was only shortly after the Asian Turtle Centre at Muenster Zoo officially opened:



Since this time, the plants have grown providing not only an aesthetically pleasing environment, but also creates shade an security blanket for the Turtles which for the most part, are kept in separate enclosures. Elmar Meier, pioneered a means of husbandry, for Turtles which greatly reduced the stress induced by a captive environment. In consequence, the animals breed fantastically, and when females are introduced to the male enclosure courtship and successsful coupling is almost always assured.
Many other Zoo's and private collections now adopt Elmar's protocols and for many, even after years of keeping animals in captivity, they too are achieving breeding success.
