Large garden run Where to buy?
I'm thinking ahead to summer. I have a large garden but the neighbours have cats so I want to have the tortoises safe from them. Where can I get a extra large run from?

The best thing and probably the cheapest would be to build one. You could then make a wire lid to go over the top, which you would want anyway if you have small tortoises.

Cats wont harm tortoises.

We have a member on here who had one of her tortoises taken from the enclosure by the cat, it's not worth the risk

I would think a cat could do some serious damage to a tortoise not worth the risk especially if they are little. There are some large runs on eBay but they are quite expensive. If you can making one would be cheaper.

Great minds, been thinking the same thing. I found a few on Ebay. Twenty five quid with free postage. We live by the sea and have a fair few naughty Seagulls, not worth the risk for me.

We made our enclosures and all have a wire lid to protect them from possible predators - seagulls, foxes, cats, etc.

If your torts are still quite small then I would definitely have a cover over the top, cats don't bother large torts from my experience, my adult torts roam freely, I've had plenty of cats of my own and other cats come in the garden, they are just not interested, cos torts don't run!! But foxes and large birds, specially birds of prey are a problem, specially if your torts are still tiny.

we made ours a Tortoise Island.Luckily for us our pair weigh over 6kgs each.I wouldn't want to meet the seagull who could pick one of them up.We are in the process of trying to post photos but are having probs.Anyone give us some info how they do theirs.
We have cats and chickens and they all get along fine.We would cover babies out the garden though.we have 24 hatchlings at moment too. |
