I am the same as you with regards a cold frame, didnt know. I have now got a v small one for £9.99 to grow my seedlings in.
I have a propigator lid - seen here on tiles for George to warm up in when the weather dips, while he is still small. I think a greenhouse/shed with heating lamp is one for the future/adults as my 2yrs old still comes in at night. Sorry if I have assumed yours is young. I also have a small animal hide for shade but he is still a little small for it but it forms part of the frame now and I can shut it. Best of luck!

Hey what sort of tort have you got? And how big? If its only a nipper I would go for a cold frame with a tubular heater etc in it. But if we are talking about lager torts like sulcata I would go for a heated shed.

Choices here mate, there's simple large enough hut's like a small dog kennel this can have a lamp + small tube heater. Shed leading to enclosure same electric's for lamp for cool day's, greenhouse with electric's.
Coldframes are used as an extra sometimes, part of an enclosure my Med's use as another warm up area, this is timber sides with a perspex top atract's the sun under glass or perspex. Not much uv waves pass through the materials though. The electric supply depend's on how far away the tort home is, quite near a outside socket could lead a heavy protected cable to the tort hut, a surge socket inside that. What species are you planning for.

I too have a insulated dog kennel with a tubular heater and basking light which works well for my adults.

I'm deciding between a Hermann or Spur Thighed Ibera...not sure yet...like the shells of the Ibera and apparently it's a very inquisitive friendly tortoise but like the face of the hermann....
Thanks for the advice... |
