Something to think about.......idiots putting fireworks in bottles so they are rocketed across the ground...at people! I wouldn't want to ban them, but ban shops from selling to underage at least.
I can see both sides of the story, I've seen too many bad things with fireworks, so I am for and against x

Sue's Story
Some years ago somebody put a lit rocket through my letterbox, I was out at the time, on my return I opened my door to the horrible smell of burnt out firework as I looked around I could see the rocket had hit the wall and shot off up the stairs, it scorched all the wallpaper along its path, I found the rocket halfway up on the stairs, stale smoke lingered, my first thought was for my beloved boxer dog whom I knew would have raced to the door upon hearing a noise, I searched expecting the worse, I found him cowering in my kitchen under the unit he was shaking and in shock, I was heartbroken, he took weeks to recover, but was never the same, although he did live for a good few years after that sad event. I struggle each year around the time I know fireworks are being sold because I saw what shock did to my dog and now constantly worry for other peoples pets everywhere, its more than overdue to ban fireworks in my opinion I would like to see them banned altogether, my dog suffered badly that dreadful night .... How many more pets are going to suffer. There are more dreadful stories like this on our website. http://fireworkscaps.webeden.co.uk/

I think you'd have to live in a pretty rough area or for someone to have a grudge to do something like that, we live in Knowle which is a nice village/small town and have never heard of people being 'nasty' with fireworks but I'm sure its different in Birmingham in some area's. Where we used to live was a very wealthy area and a lot of people would have fireworks at birthdays etc and must have spent a fortune on them but we'd always have a note in the door saying if something was on. When used responsibly fireworks are a thing of beauty to see and many occassions wouldn't be the same without them, take new years eve so no I'd never want to see them banned just more restrictions on their sale or make it an offense to let them off in a reckless or dangerous way, unless it already is.

So who is going to police it if fireworks are banned from sale to the public, nobody the same as banning kids under age for smoking and drinking, and im sure more people are injured and unfortunately die from these two things than fireworks so why not look at banning something that will make a big difference to everybody.

Fireworks and lanterns simply shouldn't be sold to the public, some of whom cannot behave responsibly with them, lanterns are quite simply lethal. Christmas and other celebrations that have been mentioned are not lethal. Simples! Both fireworks and lanterns have and do land where they shouldn't and cause untold damage and suffering to innocent people and animals, case in point I have seen just a few weeks ago of a fire work that landed on a horse stable and severly burned the horse and similar story's of lanterns landing on buildings and animals .

Just because they are not sold to the public doesn't stop them landing where they like.
If they are banned people will make their own with disastrous consequences. I know this is the case in Australia with worse injuries to people than the factory made ones.

I'm sure if you have a look you will find loads of houses etc that have burned down due to faulty Christmas lights and even reptile lights have, im sorry but people will always find a way to frighten and injure both humans and animals whether on purpose or not its just what we do so no matter how many things are asked to be banned or restricted it will still happen Last edited by Gordon; 04-12-2014 at 01:02 PM. |
