Default Fireworks campaigne

Hi Everyone, I wanted to make all of you aware of a group on Face Book that are campaigning against selling fireworks to the public. We are asking the government to stop sales of fireworks to individuals and only allow registered organized displays.
We are concerned for the health and safety of our elderly and infirm, our animals and our property when fireworks are freely available.
With organized displays and advance notice, there would be an opportunity for people to be out of the area, sedate animals appropriately or even move them from the area. There would be no horrible surprises and no prolonged firework activity.. Please sign the petition, write to your MP, share the posts or group.. Thank you.

Here is just one incident of hundreds of animals that suffer each year because of fireworks

UPDATE ON DOG HIT BY CAR ON MOTORWAY NEAR MANCHESTER AIRPORT.
The dog was called Henry, was microchipped, & owner has been contacted. Henry was spooked by fireworks.,
He is one of many dogs who have lost their lives this last week after being spooked by fireworks.
RIP Henry

I agree but its been around for years that people don't think they should be sold in shops as for animals I have a dog that likes watching them, he sits with us in the window when the school next door have their display. I believe that many owners encourage fearfull behaviour instead of letting the dog see/know that there's nothing to be frightened of, ie dogs that are brought up around guns have no fear of the noise etc it is possible for a dog to be ok around all sorts of things. Our dog has such trust in us that if we think its ok then to him its ok as well, no living thing is born with fear its something that it learns over time from its parents and surroundings, ie children aren't born with a fear of dogs and creepy crawleys they learn that from their parents.

Sorry I think that sensible owners just keep their pets in during the dark hours of that week.
If their pets are frightened then keep them on a lead during this time.
Which is what I used to do with our dog.
Common sense should rule.

Thanks for all your views, every one has their own opinion. It is not just the animals that fireworks upset, i have been told that children with autism do not cope with the noise that fireworks make, also our soldiers that have been in combat and suffer from PTSD are upset by the fireworks.

Please keep your views coming.

I quite agree with you, however i keep my cats in when i know their is a firework display but that doesn't stop them being terrified of they noise gong on outside, even with the television turned up they can still hear the explosive bangs.
If there were only organised displays and it was advertised we would know when to keep our pets inside.

Luckily my autistic little one quite likes fireworks. I ensure the chickens are in bed nice and early on bonfire night and the bangs don't bother us too much.
It's a difficult one because I can see why people like fireworks to celebrate or mark an occasion. They certainly don't go off as much as they used to. We only really hear them the week of Bonfire Night and again around Christmas and New Year.

My blind son also does not like fireworks because of the bangs. But he has to get used to it. Motor bikes also make loud noises that scare him.
I just work with him to get used to these things, its part of life. You cant ban everything just because it upsets someone. Otherwise we would be living very poor lives.
Health and safety is another, its gone absolutely crazy.
