get my energy saving self!
on xmas eve i got a leccy bill for £1003 and felt destined to spend the new year selling my animals. i decided to try and cut back on the usage a little so i brought my leopards indoors , and turned of the shed and the heaters. then i replaced every light bulb with an energy saving one and shaved an hour off the photoperiod of the diurnal animals. i have reduced the drying and dishwasher by a load a day and turned off the lights whenever i can. i didnt expect much but look at my wonderful graph! and i didnt make it meself, its straight from the EON account. so it goes to show, if you try , you CAN reduce your bills. and i havent sold a single animal!

What happened in april to make it jump?
And I wish I could get a graph like that, would be useful to see where we use power and when. |

That's impressive FP. This current financial carry on makes you think and it's no bad thing

well done, i have energy saving bulbs all over my house and if Torty goes to bed at 4 I knock his bulb off. If he goes before 4 I leave it on just in case he gets back up, but I know after 4 he's away to the land of nod I don't leave the tv on, and to be honest don't watch that much of it anyway.

the jump in april happened for several reasons. i turned the heaters on to my tortoise shed for the frst time. but as its heated by a 160w MVB in the daytime and a 250w statted ceramic, that can only account for arround 8KW of usage per day. i also left work on maternity leave so spent alot more time in the house. and when i am at home i cook and my oven is electric. also my nephew moved in with us and i built a new 8x2 viv stack heated with MVBs . i got new torts! oh and a new chameleon.
i have decided that i am going to re-jig the leos shed. i will have to re-do the insulation and deffinatley re-do the door as i feel thats where most of the heat is escaping. i will be bringing the leos in at the first sign of frosts and they will then stay in for a few months (maybe 3) until the weather has seen fit to change i am moving the reptile room into the master bedroom so i can have big lined enclosures with soil in to make a nesting area for the females. and if i am saving £160 a month then my husband wont mind at all! |
