Off to the vets today.
I am taking Kiera to the vets today, she has been having a problem standing up from laying down, not all the time or every day, I am hoping it is just her age as she will be 11 years old in September, that for a GSD is a good age. She also drags her left back foot sometimes when we are out for a walk, I am scared it might be degenerative myelopathy (I think that's the right name) the symptoms are almost the same.
Anyway, my appointment is 4.10pm, so we shall see. Marg.

Hope she is ok, it is a good age for aGSD , mine got to 12 years old , and she did get quite arthritic in her hips as she got older. So it might just be that .

Well we are back from the vets, Kiera has got arthritis in her hips, but Paula said she has a very good extension on her back legs which is good. She gave me anti inflamatives & some ant acids, we have to go back in a weeks time.
So, this is so much better than I thought, I really shouldn't listen to people who think they know every thing, it really scared me. Marg.

So pleased for you that it wasn't all bad news. I hope the anti-inflammatories help Kiera to feel more comfortable soon.

I had an old lurcher that took antiinflammatories when he started seizing up. He went on for another 18 months longer than I expected him too. They gave him a new lease of life!

A little update on Kiera, to me she seems worse today, we went on our usual walk, she saw a cat & tried to chase it but her back legs nearly collapsed, she was lame on all four legs, she could hardly walk, I am so upset, I had high hopes that these tablets would help her. I don't know what to do now, take her back to the vet or wait to see if the tablets work over a longer period, we are supposed to go back next Monday.
Marg.

have you thought about some of the 'alternative' remedys ? I take glucosamine for my knees and it helps a lot, we also used to give Rhus Tox to my daughters old pony who had bad back legs and I'm sure there's lots of others if you do a search.
