Help...
I have hibernated my hatchlings for 6 weeks now, and woke them up today. Slowly increased the temperature during the day, and 2 of the 3 are up and moving around. However the third one ist not moving at all, has her eyes closed, and doesn't respond to touch. I'm really worried and thing she might have died.
Is there anything else I can try, or is it really bad news?
I'm so worried.

If the eyes are sunken inwards, then I would have to say the hatchling has passed away.
A gentle soak in water might have some response.
Even in hibernation a gentle poke on the leg should have a response, albeit slow.

I am so sorry to read this, Julia. Not reacting to touch isn’t a good sign but it is always worth a bath to feel certain yourself. Worrying one way or the other isn’t nice for you so I’m thinking of you.

Thanks for your responses. I appreciate it.

I have tried spraying her with water, and moving her limbs....but sadly no response. So sad.
I just wonder what I have done wrong. She was the biggest and most active of the three.

At least the other 2 seem ok.

It has happened to me when I was breeding my tortoises, and sadly it happens in the wild too. If your other two are fine then it must have been something that you had no control over. We can only do our best with the knowledge we have.

Thanks Sandy,
the good news is that the other 2 came out and had a good nibble on some lettuce this morning.
So at least they seem to be okay.

Hope the other two continue to go from strength to strength for you, Julia.

Thank you Emma.
I just saw the long list of names by your signature and assume they are all tortoises????

You must be very experienced! I'm so impressed.

I have rehomed a few.
I find I’m forever learning with tortoise husbandry but it is a real passion for me; a dream come true quite literally, from daydreams as a child.
