Hibernation help please
Both my torts have been in hibernation for just over 6 weeks. Today i did my weekly weigh in check and found Nutmeg has lost more than 10% . So i'm going to wake him up. Saffron is fine .
I originally wanted to hibernate for 8 weeks but in Nutmegs case I dare not continue. It is Nutmegs first Hibernation and Saffrons second . Saffron managed 6 weeks last time. What I want to know is should I wake them both up together or will Saffron be ok for a little while longer her weight loss is minimal . |

Pleased to say Nutmeg is back to his lively self eating everything put in front of him no worse for his first hibernation. |

I would have left saffron anyway if she's doing ok, I got one of my older females up today, she did 10 weeks, and is doing fine, I probably could have left her for another week or two, but she hadn't eaten since October so didn't want to leave her any longer, I got her up ay 10.30am, left at room temp for 2 hours, under lamp for an hour then half hour bath, pleased to say she has eaten and released urates x

I agree with this poster, your second tortoise would have easily done another four weeks. Especially as you were monitoring so closely:0) You just have to give these things a go, as its how we all learn by trying:0)

I'm pleased now that I appear to have made the right decision. Saffron is still fast asleep . Thanks for your reassuring support

Sorry, I seem to have got their names muddled up. I agree with the others, Saffron will be fine for a bit longer, you seem to have it all under control and doing very well.
