My Indian Star, Percy
The wife bought me him as an early Christmas present around a month ago.
He's a little shy but has his own routine, eats like a trooper and gets quite active once you've disturbed him. Not sure how old he was when I got him but I'd imagine very young. Hi hot end is around 35-38 and is cool end is 23-28, he has constant access to water and tends to use it a bit. He has dried flowers/grass bedding, wood chip in the middle then dirt the other end where his garden grows. He's fed on whatever he has in his garden (just seeds from this website) fresh 'living' salad from Sainsburys, pellets and a bit of rocket. I'm scared of feeding him random weeds from out in the garden! |

Welcome to the site Scrooge. That is one cute tiny tort! Can I ask, what is 'living' salad? I love his garden, I might have to borrow that idea for our tort!

Thanks for the welcome
It's baby salad leaves, exact name escapes me but the wife checked on the tortoise lady to make sure it was fine. I'm buying some more tonight so I'll still a photo of the label up. |

"living salads" usually refer salads plants that are sold growing in small pots. One can harvest them leaf at the time as they keep some what longer than pre-packed already harvested leaves/heads.

I'm overly cautious on picking weeds for him. I don't want to take the risk. |

If you buy few of those living salad plants and pot them up into larger pot with compost...keep them watered and on windowsill..they not only keep longer but will carry on growing into full size lettuce plants!
I know some people..'cough'.. that purposely pick pots that have more than one salad plant in a pot, then in home they split the plants...plant them and grow them on. Quicker way to harvest salads than waiting them to grow from seed... |
