Default in need of moral support

in half an hour i am going to pick up my 4 year old niece whom i will be looking after for the next couple of days ON MY OWN my mum has escaped 300 miles up north to be with my big sister so i am left with the child. this would be fine if i didnt have to look after her plus my 5 month old puppy. when they get together they bring hell on earth, mess and destruction no matter what they do. I DONT THINK I WILL COPE i dont know how i can keep her amused for so long as i am rubbish with kids. i love her dearly but only in small doses!! any suggestions on what i can do with her?
this may be my last ever post as i may be locked away forever in a padded white room for losing my sanity............................................ ..........

Oh bless you, you will be fine. Children can smell fear so be strong. Best to lay some rules down and let them know who is boss (thats that i do at work) sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. But if children know they can walk all over you then you have had it.

Take her for a walk in the park, do come colouring in, get some DVD's etc

Hi Kirsty!

Dont worry I am sure you will cope just fine!

Making rice crispy cakes as linda has pointed out is an excellent idea, it will keep her busy and you can have a chocolate fix when you feeling shattered later!!
Try and involve her in your daily chores, it may not sound that exciting, but I have found that my little girl wants to everything I do, it makes her feel grown up. She helps feed the dogs, pick weeds for the torts, even general household chores. You can turn almost anything into a game that they will keep them occupied!!!

Take care and good luck
