Default who to give an Egyptian tortoise to?

ive mentioned on here before about someone who took two egyptian torts back in their bra years ago when on holiday. one died and they are bringing the other over to me to check up on. i haven't seen it yet so want to confirm its species. if its an Egyptian tennis going to try and persuade them to give it to a breeding program due to them being endangered. i am unsure who i would give it to though.
i may contact bristol zoo who have a group and work with the European breeding program but are there any closer options to west Wales?
im sure it will be hard to get them to part with it but im going to try!

they also said it has a lump on its leg but are afraid to take it to the vets incase they get in trouble

As it was smuggled it won't have an A10 and I doubt DEFRA would issue one, so it can't be used in a breeding program.

Wherever it goes its only going to be a pet.. maybe you should just let them keep it but make sure it has the correct care?

The lump on its leg could be an abscess, I'm sure if it was taken to a vet they wouldn't ask to look at papers, a vet has never asked to look at my torts article 10's. they could just say it was given to them, the torts health must come first, it could never be returned to the wild or sold anyway so a breeding program would be ideal if you could find one These are not the easiest species to keep eithe as they get stressed easily. You could contact the tortoisetrust for advice

I agree, I too have never been asked about paperwork or the origins of my torts whilst at the vets. S/he should be treated.

i would love to keep egyptians but they are very expensive and require a lot more care and a lot less human interaction than my hermanns, they are probably the shyest of tortoises. If the abscess is not treated the tortoise could become very ill indeed.
