This is a right old problem isn't it especially when there has just been a post from some one saying about his tortoise having its leg pecked off. (just to add to the worry). The best you can do if you don't cover over - and personally I don't with my larger torts because it is impractical - is make sure there are masses of hiding spaces and or objects. In the wild they will walk point round their area and it probably isn't in the open too much. You can not mitigate all risk, it is just sensible precautions but then do you cater for ground dwellers intent on causing problems...think putting birds off - I have little beach windmills fluttering about , but that's just for me, CB

Bertie would stay out, so I take him in at night. Beatrice takes herself to bed in their indoor enclosure, but then she likes the warmth.
