Mazuri tortoise diet vs Mazuri Leafeater

SW forum is provided by a business and in return we support it by buying their products, it needles me when business comes in with low post counts selling their wares and saying the other products were questionable and they will undercut competitors, if the poster had come on and brought up the subject of mazuri, without also posting a sales pitch, I wouldn't have responded. If they had said they would give a donation to the running of the forum, in response to having their advert here, I would have patted them on the back.

It takes a lot of work from the team at SW and the mods to keep this running

Aah so your annoyance is with the fact I can undercut Sarah's prices not the fact I have given an explanation of two different products, i see!

Firstly my products have also been posted on the SW facebook page where I am an active member, as you have already suggested about us posting our tortoise's, this is where they are all posted, both Sarah and all the other admins have seen these business and personal posts, chatted about them and 'liked' several

I have over my 9 years of keeping tortoises bought various products from Sarah which she is very aware of both personally and for my business so please get your facts straight before you come at me with a VERY unfactual attack. I have not ever said anything sarah sells is questionable nor does she sell leafeater probably for the same reason.

If you would like to contact the admins and ask them to take this post off I will be more than happy to talk to them about it!

There is a massive difference between the two products!!

Mazuri tortoise diet is formulated specifically for them, with protein/fibre levels which reflects the research they have done on wild diets. This has previously been unavailable for import to the UK so is made in the EU and labelled as NutraZu, exactly the same product and recommended by Mazuri for UK keepers. However Mazuri is now available for purchase in the UK as well as NutraZu

Mazuri leafeater is a diet formulated by Mazuri for leaf eating primates and is as such higher in protein. Mazuri tortoise diet being only 15% protein and Mazuri leafeater being 23%. It is easily available, is much cheaper and has become very widely used in the UK. The feeding guidelines on the leafeater product are exactly the same as the Tortoise diet product, regardless of the fact the nutritional values are different. The ingredients for both Mazuri primate and Mazuri leafeater and the same with just some variations on the wording.

There is debate as to whether the protein level of 23% is indeed too high for tortoises, I personally trust the judgement of Mazuri and the many years of research they have done to provide the tortoise specific diet that they do. If I were in the states I would not buy my tortoise a diet labelled 'primate diet', the fact I'm in the UK and it is labelled for tortoises does not change that.

I think this thread is maybe an info-mercial!!

The person is saying that the two products are very different which is useful for anyone that didn't know already.

Both of them appear to be a soya base which is the fibre bulk with stuff added on in chemical form.

It's about as natural as a chocolate breakfast cereal with all the riboflavin and iron etc a growing child needs for a day. Maybe one day all human life will depend on such products. But thankfully I'll be dead by then!

Well I didn't know much about these pellet foods to begin with and now I'm even more confused, I frequently hear people on here and FB groups say Nutrazu and mazuri are fine to use over the winter as a suppliment , twice a week with green food. And others saying they wouldn't touch it. I only want to feed a natural diet, but over the winter weeds are scarce, so I've been using nutrazu twice a week with green food, only in winter. Some one please tell me what is the best thing to do over winter.
