Hi Taylor
I think i read that cuttlefish bone is an extra source of calcium, and it helps to keep there beaks down,
but i dont think it is enough to rely on.
I give my torts calcium powder and cuttlefish bone is there if needed

Cuttlefish is just calcium. Nutrabol is a mix of different vitamins and minerals. So it wouldn't save on nutrabol as you would still need to be buying it.

tay

torts need additional vitamins and minerals in order to "absorb" the calcium

so good weeds
good uv
and nutrobal
good accomodation

are all required to keep a tort healthy

If you get the calcium carbonate from a horse retailers it is quite cheap. For a really large
quantity.

Nutrobal in a calcium balancer, tortoises need a calcium to phosphorus balance of at least 2-1, idealy much higher more like 5-1.

Cuttle fish will not redress the balance as it contains phosphorous, Nutrobal cotains pure Calcium carbonate to helps redress this balance, as well as other vitamins, notable vit D3 that the tortoises need to utilize the Calcium in there diet.

As Sandy says you can buy pure calcium carbonate from a horse feed supplier its less than a fiver for about 3kgs, doesn't have an expiry date like Nutrobal and will give a positive increase in the calcium to phosphorous level.

But with out sufficient vitamin D3, the tortoises won't be able to use the calcium effectively.

They either need this Vitamin in there diet, or through UV exposure, and we don't have anywhere near the UV exposure that they get in the naitive countries.
