Default Question

I was wondering how long its recomended to wait before getting a second tortoise? I have only had Sheldon for a month so I wont be getting another yet but I wondered if I should have him for a certain length of time before I got another? And would they be able to be kept together?

there is no time frame but it is inevitable that you get another... and another... and another...

Haha yes thats my worry. My boyfriend already sounded concerned when I brought it up. But if I do get another sometime in the not so distant future will they be able to be kept together as long as they are the same sub-species?

You can keep any tortoise together. It's a hot topic among some control freaks but if they are both CB there is no real concern.

I would recommend getting another tortoise sooner rather than later if you are going to get one. Just make sure theres not too much of a size difference. Most people will recommend 6 months quarantine to make sure both tortoises are healthy and won't pass anything on to each other. I got a tortoise then a few months later I added another from the same breeder without quarantine as I was confident that both tortoises were healthy and they had previously lived together anyway xx

So if I got another would I need to get another enclosure for it to live in for 6 months while it was quarantined? Sheldon is currently only 67mm so hes not very big, if I got another I would probably try and get one of a simular size or a bit smaller.

No I didnt get Sheldon from a breeder but he has been checked out at the vets and is healthy. I would get the next one from a breeder though.
