Most people will recommend quarantine but its really up to you. Some problems in tortoises aren't noticed until they are older so having 6 months quarantine wouldn't make any difference. If you got another tortoise and you were confident that both tortoises were healthy, theres no reason why you couldn't put them together. Hope this helps xx

Thank you that is really helpful I know Sheldon is healthy right now as the vet was really impressed with him so hopefully nothing shows up. The only issue would be I would need to get a bigger enclosure as he is currently in a viv (I know some people are not keen on vivs but his temperatures are good and the humidity is fine so my vet said theres no problem keeping him in there, he also comes out every day for a bath and a walk) but I don't think its big enough for 2!

Being a "control freak" I would not mix species or introduce another tortoise without at least a 6 month or longer quarantine period, as Sheldon did not come from a breeder he could have been imported and may carry disease even if that is not evident at the moment. There is also the other issue of what sex your torts may turn out to be as 2 males could fight in the future and a male and female may mean that the female is constantly pestered by the male when they reach sexual maturity.

If I do get another I will get the same breed definitely . Although I didnt get Sheldon from a breeder I got him from a shop, he did come from a UK breeder and I have a certificate for him. I am a bit worried about the sex thing as he was sexed on here by Danny as looking to be male so I don't want to get a male and they fight, and I dont want to get a girl and her be pestered. What do people normally do if they already have a male and want another?

They would probably be ok for a while. You would just need to be prepared to seperate if they started fighting xx
