Default Hermann book

I have just brought vetter- hermanns tortoise, at a quick flick throu it looks really good can't wait to start Reading it, I love learning and this looks like it's gonna help alot

He certainly does. This in my opinion is one of the best books written on Tortoises of any species or group, and set's a benchmark for others to follow.
We are blessed however, with the Hermann's Tortoise as there is also Wolfgang Wegehaupt's book Naturalistic Keeping and breeding of Hermann's Tortoises which also is a masterclass in the subject.

Yeah I'm amazed at how much food torts really eat in the wild, and the fact they eat fruit but we get told not to feed fruit

Two things about the fruit a Hermanns tortoise encounters in the wild;

It's availability is seasonal, not constant.

It bears little relation to the fruit we eat, which is engineered to be fructose heavy, appealing to our sweet tooth.

From that book, I have added wild blackberries in small quanties (equating to one or two per tortoise per week) to the diet
of my Hermanns, when they are available in the autumn

What about apples off trees, there are some pear and apple trees in the woods is used for cider but are on public paths would they be diff to the fruit we eat
