Default Yet more chickens!

Farmer came past today - did I want more chickens No, not really, but then he tells me that his dogs tended to be a bit playful with the ones he had Made the mistake of taking a look - all a bit battered and bloody. Guess who has now got 8 more chickens to mend and hopefully rehome

They're gorgeous! I bet they'll soon regrow their feathers and look better.
What sort have you got there? Looks as if the darker ones could be Rhode Rock types? They look fairly young still. Plenty of eggs for you!

They do look quite young. Poor little girls, how can he let the dogs "play" with them? It's just wrong.

I really don't know Emma First chickens I have kept are my ex bats which I took on in April. Think there are a couple of "silkies" in with the new ones - lot smaller.

Awww poor little ladies, at least they will be treated well now. I would love some chicks but I don't have the space.

Know where you are coming from Still, the girls are now fairly settled next to my 3 originals, Bronte, Rosy & Ruby, who are most put out

Sad times Despite worming, feeding and chasing the new group of 8 chickens to give them antibiotics, only 5 of the group left. Not only that, today lost Bronte, one of my ex bat girls. Only comfort is that she did grow back all her feathers and was very smart indeed and great company in the garden, greenhouse, or wherever I went She had 6 glorious months after release from her cell, I will miss her but wouldn't hesitate in recommending giving a lifeline to ex bats to retire in peace - they are quite an experience

I'm really sorry to hear that Lynne. It's awful to lose chickens but at least you know that you gave them a much better few weeks of their lives and Bronte had a wonderful 6 months post battery cage.
What you do is so admirable.
