Default Redfoot weirdo.

My Redfoot is the weirdest tortoise. Everything I read about Redfoots says they are friendly and easy to look after etc.
He is my favourite out of our bunch but he is not friendly really. I'd say he only tolerates me (probably because I feed him) and is not impressed with the wife at all. He was rescued from all small vivarium in a local garden centre and I think he was quite traumatised.
His housing, humidity, temperature, diet, lighting etc is all how it should be but after 9 months he is still very anti social. Does anyone else find this with their Redfoot.
I'm not really worried about him, everything has it's own personality, but just think he's "a bit odd".

Hey Steve, My 3 reds all have their moody days and each one has a very different personality. Just this afternoon, my most social chap was stomping around with a right cob on, hissing and barging around my hands. I also have one who's very timid and completely uninterested in people. They do say that reds have big personalities, and mine are all very much individuals.

Cheers Naturalee. He certainly has a huge personality. You can see in his face when he is sulking and got a strop on but people dont believe me. They think all tortoises are the same lol.

Yeah unless you've kept tortoises you'd never know how much character they could be capable of. Mine are definitely very individual. How old is yours?

Not 100% because we got him from the garden centre and they weren't sure. We think he's between 7 and 10. He's great though. At the moment all 4 of them have taken over the bedroom but the meds will be outside soon, just bought a greenhouse for them.
We want to get Terry (the Redfoot) downstairs but there isn't a decent space to put his table so we're going to have a downstairs wall knocked out, block a doorway off and then there'll be a perfect space for his table and he can be down with us (me,wife, dogs & cat). I think he'll benefit from being around "normal life".

Haha! I love that you're knocking walls down etc to accommodate a tortoise!! Awesome!!! It may well benefit him being around you all a bit more. He must be pretty big then. You should get some pics up of him.

Yeah I definately think he'll benefit from being downstairs, we'll start on the alterations later in the summer so he can be down with us by winter. I'll get pics of all of them up when I get some time. I think all of them are amazing animals but he's definately my favourite.

So true, I was telling my collegue about something George did the other day and she was in fits of laughter and said -"who'd have thought a tortoise can be funny"

I know! They are amusing! Mine regularly have me laughing! But then, even when they're just going about their business I could watch them for hours at a time. It always makes me laugh how they often have a complete disregard for each other when they want to get somewhere and just barge each other out of the way!
