I have been to darrens, he doesn't live far away from me and I think quite a few poeple on here have had some of darrens!
Unforntunately the last time I went round was the really hot day in july and all of the torts were hiding trying to stay cool.
I think I have seen you webpage.

Hi Jamie
Yellows are basically the same as redfoots but they do prefer a more humid environment and fruit plays a slightly bigger part in there diet,
It is believed that humidity or the lack of will fault there fertility yellow foots love water and will soak for hours in a deep bowl if the back ground temps are adequate they need it around 88f -95f, yellows prefer to have an ambient back ground heat rather than bask but they will enjoy basking if given the opportunity to do so but not as long as most other tortoise species

PIglet thanks for replying.
Another quick question how do the people who keep reds and yellows in table tops keep the humidity as high as it needs to be especially with yellows

Hi Jamie
Its no way as difficult as some people will try and make out, as long as you use suitable substrate
Materials the humidity can be held very well.
I use for the adults table type enclosure 1 ft of good top soil this is then covered with 2-3inches of children’s play bark chips this is regularly watered with a watering can not to soak it but just a good sprinkle if you then lay a good hygrometer reader on the surface you will see that its very easy to keep a floor humidity of 70-80% this is adequate for both red and yellow footed tortoises as the animals are on the ground were the humidity is needed , this can be supplemented with a warm daily mist spray which is greatly appreciated by most hope this helps
