Redfoots don't get too big but are still fairly large torts or maybe try one of the spur thighed sub species that doesnt hibernate

i was thinking of redfoots but i think they grow a bit too big and im not too sure on a tunisian because i thought tunisians might need a expert tortoise keeper and hard to look after because i want a tortoise that is smaller than an adult hermans tortoise and also i would like a tortoise that will keep me busythough out the winter?

There aren't many readily avalible species that don't hibernate smaller than Reds. Tunisians aren't that difficult from what I have been told and they were something I was thinking of when reccomending a none hibernating spur sub species.

They are fairly rare, but they're fantastic little tortoises which are full of character. Their only real weakness is that they're very prone to picking up Runny Nose Syndrome, especially if they're kept poorly or come into contact with another species. They're also difficult to grow smoothly because they don't hibernate.
