Substrate for my horsfield tortoise
Hi I have a 4yr old horsfield tortoise. I bought her from a reptile breeder who to be Frank kept all his reptiles in bad conditions the more I am learning the more I realise how wrong he is about the things he told me. Right now she is in a about 4ft to 4 and a half ft viv. (at the mo I am working on a box) but I just need to know how much substrate to put in. I was told plain sand will do and just enough so you can't see the bottom can someone please help me.
Thanks very much any help at all is appreciated |

Horsfields love to dig. I would use Sterilized Top Soil (can be bought at BnQ, homebase, wicks etc.) I would have a depth of at least 3 inches.

Basically what has been said above, some people add abit of playing sand but some say its bad for their eyes, but you cant go wrong with sterilised top soil.. horsefields LOVE to dig

I would stick to just 100% topsoil, Horsfields and sand don't mix, their eyes usually react to the sand.
