It looks to be Testudo graeca terrestris Was it bred in New Zealand or recently brought to New Zealand?

Thanks
Thank you all!
We are certainly incredibly fond of the little guy/gal! He was bred in NZ, where tortoises are relatively hard to get hold of. When we went into the pet store (I know, since reading the various forums I would probably avoid purchasing from a retailer) my partner thought he was a plastic enrichment toy...until he yawned...and we were sold! We have spent the past month building indoor and outdoor enclosures, having originally been sold a fish tank!! We have had him screened by a specialist vet, treated for worms and a protozoal infection, have planted containers full of weeds, and now I hope he is settling in for a long and happy future! We really appreciate the offers of advice and will no doubt call upon that at some point. Nga mihi nui, Chris. |
