Definitely a female.
If ever you have a problem with the prolapse, soak in sugar water. This stops any swelling and sometimes helps it go back into place. Then see a tortoise vet:0)

Thank you everyone! I'll keep an eye on it. It's obviously the only time I've seen this and everything popped away when I put her back down. Feel rather daft now! Is it something unusual or to be concerned about? Is there a common cause?

Thank you Sandy, what do you think is the proportions to the water? ie teaspoon to 100ml , that sort of equivalent. I must admit I am a little generous when it comes to critical care to water. thank-you, CB
