The Police are now involved and i should hear from them today about where i stand, if its possible to get the tort back we will do whatever it takes to do so!

the guy lives 3doors down from me and i dont see how it could have gotten out of the garden on its own as it has always been a very placid and inactive tortoise except for when it sees food! it was at the bottom of a fenced garden in its pen which it hasnt been able to escape from since we first got her maybe 9 years ago? (lined with concrete blocks about 3 times the hight of the tortoise and i made sure there was no way for it to climb up)and after checking the entire perimeter of the garden the only way it could have got out on its own once it escaped its pen would have been by climbing up a bit of a concrete ramp, then climbing up a step higher than itself and then managing to fit through the small hole beside the gate down the side of the house, only big enough for my cat to get through and not something it could simply crawl through and then would have had to crawl along the pavement and into this guys front garden so we think somebody may have opened the side gate and taken it.

when my dad politely asked him for details of the person he gave it to the man tried closing the door on him! hopefully it was given to somebody local with previous experience of tortoises!

I really hope this turns out well for you, I have been checking this forum all yesterday in the hope of seeing that you have/will be getting your tort back. The man 3 doors down sounds absolutely awful. Goodluck !!

thanks guys, no news yet but found some good quality pictures that show the front and left view of her shell so that the police can have some proof and also dug out the certificate for her. will let you all know when i get any news

Generally we live in a nice neighborhood and by the police being sent to this mans door im hoping it isnt going to stir anything up as i have 4 classic cars on the driveway and if anything was to happen to them i know who i would be suspecting!

bit of an update, Today a police officer came round to the house to take a statement from my dad. The guy who gave the tort away has been given a deadline to come up with something or we are under the impression he will be arrested. i hope it doesn't come to him being arrested, i would rather just get my tort back!
