Very Sad
Some of you may have heard of the tortoise Wilma Pie Thompson, owned by Naomi who has been on this site occasionally. Wilma was a very brave tortoise who had a severe kidney problem but had a pioneering operation to allow liquids to bypass its kidney through a tube. This operation allowed Wilma to lead a happy and full tort life for many years.
I and many others followed the 'adventures' and thoughts of Wilma via facebook, but she had recently had complications. Yesterday Wilma posted her last message to say that she was going to sleep so that she wouldn't be in any more pain and thanks to all of her lovely friends. I know that it's ridiculous for a 40 year old man, but I am so very sad at this news. It has completely knocked my duck off as they say up here. The world seems a much duller and sadder place without this beautiful, braver little tort in it. God bless you, Wilma! |

It is not daft for a 40 year old man to be saddened by this news. You have obviously been following her story closely for a while now making her a part of your life and you have every right to be upset. All you can do is find comfort in the fact that she will no longer be in any pain and she will be on the rainbow bridge playing with all those that have gone before her, not just of her species but of every animal species. That is what comforts me when a pet of mine or of a close friend/ family member pass on
Its nice to hear that you have emotions anyway as many men wouldn't admit to it lol Sarah xx |

I cried my eyes out when I read the news Nick, so if you are silly then so am I. She really brightened up Facebook, her status updates often had me howling with laughter. Her owners will no doubt be gutted as will her many followers on Facebook be. RIP Wilma, I will miss you so
