They are k.homeana. I paid a visit recently actually. Apparently they didn't know that the eggs had been laid and found some hatchlings in the enclosure one morning. The nearest thermometer to their enclosure read 20 degrees Celsius, but there was a bit more heating in their enclosure so I might guess at a very variable temperature averaging out at maybe 23. Tbh though, they shouldn't be keeping them with the yellow foots as the k.homeana adults will be WC, and that big yellow foot they have of 20 inches or so could easily cause damage to them. They don't seem to have quite cracked the care for the babies either, the shells aren't perfect. I would think-looking at the enclosure- that it is a bit dry.
Aznic, k.homeana occupy much deeper rainforest than k.nogueyi, so probably not quite the right care. Some zoos keep k.nogueyi, so if you can find one that would be worth a visit.

You thought it was to dry blimey i was thinking how wet it was and how dark where they seemed to be hanging out really proves the difference between them and med torts big time as for the very large yellow foot i thought the same and did mention my concerns but they said they were ok together

Hi Aznic I keep hermanns and hinge backs too. The requirements and personalities are very different but I'm really enjoying getting to grips with it all. I have posted pics of my outdoor greenhouse enclosure on here before, but they are indoors at the moment. I was lucky enough to find one of mine laying eggs just after Christmas so fingers crossed for hatchlings!

The adult enclosure was fine, but I thought the babies looked dry. More kind of Red Foot habitat than Homes Hingebacks. Both Yellow Foots and Homes Hingebacks are true forest tortoises, the former found in the Amazon Basin area for the most part-loads of streams, and very little light gets through the canopy. The latter are often found in swamps and rocky streams, and are pretty much completely inactive-not hibernating, but think of it like just spending all day on the couch activity- during the dry season. With the Yellow Foots that big, they would be almost certainly WC like the Homes Hingebacks, so I would be very worried about parasites crossing, and the size difference.
Sorry to go off topic by the way.

How long do you have your hinges in out door enclosures ?
My adult THB's are in a greenhouse with aviary type enclosure , I would be interested to see how youve got your hinge backs outside - if you dont mind sending me some piccies .

I don't know how to do a link to the thread with the pictures but it's in this section (thread started by me) and the pics are on page 2. I have got heating in the greenhouse but had to bring the little guys indoors at the end of October/beginning of November.

Is it later enough for me to thank you Dan? Brilliant quality and quantity of info, considering your age and everything lol!
