Had to rush George to the vets this morning He has cystitus again for the second time in less than 6 weeks. Apparently when you are passing that much glucose, you are prone to it.
Poor George was in so much pain but he was given a strong pain killer, an anti inflammatory and is now on antibiotics. He seems much calmer tonight
Back in the vets for more tests on tuesday.

hi lyn

i do not know much about diabetes in animals

but ive been insulin dependant for well over 25 years

and symptoms like
thrush
cystitis
persistant thirst
re occurant abseceses
etc etc

are all showing a poor blood sugar control

most of these illnesses thrive on sugar

im hoping you can get the cats blood sugars more stable

you and your vet are obviuosly working so hard

He seems a bit happier today. I am hoping for some better news when he has his blood tests on tuesday I really worry about him as he is like one of our kids
Supposed to be going to a party tonight but may not go as I'd like to stay in and make sure George is ok

Heya,

all i can say is these people who have chosen NOT to change their cats diets have chosen to cut it's life short. With diabetes it's so important to give the right food.
Low sugars, Low carbs.

This might be worth a try, a little green tea to drink can activley and naturally help to lower sugar levels in the blood. of course, in small amounts. Hope they can find a more permenant solution. x

Not good news again. George was in the vets yesterday and the lowest his level went was 24.9 then they started rising again. Have decided to go back on the human insulin at an increased dose. This didn't work as such but George seemed happier on it.
Vet is going to do all the tests he is able to do but he said we may need to possibly send him away where they will do lots of tests on him Vet loves George just as much as we do and he said that he doesn't want to do it but it may come to the point where he can't do any more for him. He said it's good we have insurance (has cost £2000 since october) but he said that when these places know an animal is insured they will do every test going and eat through the money. I can claim up to £7000 a year but he said it could well go over that. Well if it does we will just find the money. He DID say that George may just have diabetes and is insulin intolerant but he MAY have an underlying problem that we don't know about which is causing the insulin not to work properly.
Someone has just said to me that there may be something slightly wrong with his thyroid so will mention that to the vet.
Sorry for going on. Just a bit upset

Poor you and poor George, I really do hope that the vets manage to help George out soon. Will keep my fingers crossed for you and keep us posted on how he is doing
