Would they need to be kept in heated accomodation most of the year?

I would say so Alan, I am planning a heated greenhouse for mine with access to an outdoor area. They can be put outside on warmer days, but I doubt I would be happy leaving them outdoors overnight. Despite this they are lovely tortoises and an absolute joy to keep.

Yeah, they like it hot apparently(this ones always up the hot end of the viv, when shes not eating weeds), and are excellent escape artists, so its recommended to keep them indoors, though she does like a supervised stroll on the lawn
