Hi May i ask is lovley Tort a Algerian Spur Thighed?
I only ask because my Old boy tommy as just been ID ( in Identification / sexing which species pleae lesley hogg) as a Algerian by the very helpful people on this website and its the first time i have come accross a Algerian ad was interested to find out if many of them about? thanks les

this tortoise was bought in a market in london in 1923 , at that time it was already sub adult. So its at least 87 years old, but more like 100 years old.

Hi, Algiria is part of africa , i would imagine lots were shipped over the early part of the century ,so there will be a few still living in the uk , this one is around 100 years old , it was bought in a market in london in 1923. I think its important to try to breed this sub species here in the uk to try to build up there numbers here.

Hi Thanks for getting back to me and yes I agree about the breeding of this Sub Species
I have had Tommy for over 40 years My dad bought him for me for 10 Bob =50p back in 1968 so my boy not a youngster( like me) and Now his been ID Algierian and not a Moroccan like i thought he may have been, i just now have to find a girlfriend for him
I have the room and time for another Tort so fingers crossed i can find one les
