worst keeper ive ever seen
hi,just thought i would tell people what ive seen because it was so bad. just to make people aware of how bad some keepers are.
ive been looking for bells hingebacks for some time now ive put adverts on various forums and have had alot of bells hingebacks offered to me. i got offered a pair off a guy in wakefield which was ideal for me as i live in wakefield, ive just been to see them tonight what a horror show. in his sitting room he had a 4ft fish tank with a heat mat in with wood shavings, a normal light bulb for light, 1 sulcata tortoise, 3 indian stars, i couldnt make out what the other ones were as they were burried in the shavings. the tank was full of condensation. they were fed on some dry food which ive never seen before it didnt even look like pellets. he had a large leopard and eight other small ones a couple of redfoots, some yellowfoots, some marginated, hermanns and some other species of tortoises which i wasnt to sure of, most of these were nice large tortoises with really smooth shells, but i cant imagine these being captive bred. these tortoise were all living in the same enclosure upstairs in this guys house. the hingebacks i went to see, the male had really bad shell rot and all of his toes on his back leg were missing, obviously wild caught. then he produced kinixys erosa the forest hinge back which ive never seen before and never known anyone to keep, he told me any tortoise i wanted he could get them imported for me as he had a friend who owned a pet shop. the guy lived in a terraced house, i didnt see his back garden but i cant imagine it to be very big, i dont think these tortoises have ever seen the light of day. this is the worst tortoise keeper ive ever seen in my life i left feeling a bit disturbed as it was clear it was cruel. |

Thats a shame, he's either uneducated on torts or just ignorant and don't care. people who know how importation works and don't care as long as they make money are just not worth bothering with, I had an import that passed after 2 months and it was heartbreaking and to this day I miss him so much but it's no skin off the dealers nose is it. I hope this importation ban can be made happen because importing ruins and ends lives.

yea generally they don't do alot when it concerns petshops but they do come down hard on individual owners. they have a 24 hour hotline.
