Went for a second worming treatment today & she's put on 2 grams (and is now a whopping 30g altogether!)

That's good news Tatty. As she recovers and starts to eat normally, watch out that you don't start to be too generous with the food. I've been guilty of this in past. When a tortoise has been unwell and gets better I'm so glad it's eating that I just want to see it eat.

Is it normal after worming for torts to be a little sluggish? She was wormed on Friday and has only eaten a little since, and also doesn't seem massively interested in basking? Currently she has fallen asleep next to her food...

Try giving her a reptoboost bath for a few days. Worming can leave them feeling a bit sluggish.

Me again! Don't know if I am just a worrier but there always seems to be something at the moment. Mabel is still not particularly active. I've uploaded a picture of her enclosure so people can perhaps see if anything is wrong. She always sleeps under the log in the top left hand corner, and when I put the lamp on in the morning she doesn't get up by herself. This week I have been getting her up for a bath but when I put her back in, she's pretty much gone straight back under the log. She's not even going to bask (temp is 32-33c still) and the last time she ate was Tuesday in the garden. I'm so frustrated
EDIT: Blinkin typical, as soon as I posted this I got Mabel back up out of the log for another bath (she looked like she was straining a little to poo so thought it would help) and she's tottered off to bask now. I would still say though it's very infrequent compared to how she used to be. Last edited by Tatty91; 29-05-2015 at 12:26 PM. |

So an extra light bulb on the enclosure might well do the trick.

I'd agree with Sandy. Is it a combi bulb that you're using?
The other end of the table is quite dark, so you could use a clip on light there. If you're not using a combi bulb, then perhaps a UV strip light would be good.

don't be too despondent. They are very different little creatures. I have to get one of my small ones up (she is only 90 grammes) every day and she goes to bed around midday or early afternoon once she felt ok in her environment. Prior to that she was very active looking round. Don't forget in the wild the young ones are vulnerable and know it so they come out for a feed or warm up and back again under cover. makes them feel safe.

It is a combined bulb yes. I can see what you mean about it being a bit dark but I can't help but think it is the quality of the picture that makes it seem darker! In real life the bulb does make the cooler end quite bright as well. Maybe I could tilt the bulb a little more towards where she is sleeping and see if that helps to get her up?
