It's possible but can't be sure. If they are Corisican, they should get pretty big for a Testudo hermanni hermanni.

Sorry to be boring but it's really difficult to sex this tortoise accurately at that size. A couple of mine were wrongly identified as male/female around that size. So I'd give them another season of growth for more accuracy.

I'm not going to venture a guess on sex because they can definitely go either way, especially with Hermann's ssp.
As for locality data, there is no certified way to tell their lineage unless you know exactly where the adults were collected. However, some things you can look for in them if they are Corse, is the number of claws on each front foot. Although this can and does vary, Corse specimens will usually have 4 light colored claws on each front foot. Also, the second vertebral scute on the carapace will dip into the first vertebral like a "U" shape. This is very common in Corse tortoises. One last thing to look for is the "gular mustache". This is when one or two black stripes or spots are found only on the inner side of the gular scutes under the neck. You can read more about this trait on my site here: http://www.hermannihaven.com/#!sicilian-tortoises/chld Although I am discussing my Sicilian tortoises on that page, the gular mustache is something that is typically found on Corse and Sardinian Thh as well. Hope this helps. Beautiful tortoises you have. |

hmm.. tks Chris
was trying to see those details you mentioned and its really difficult to assess as they are small yet, but.. tortoise 1 (the bigger one) seems to have 5 claws on front feet and complete gular moustache. tortoise 2 has 5 claws on front feet and incomplete gular moustache tortoise 3 has 4 claws on front feet and complete gular moustache both claws on front and back legs are light colour for now.

It does sound like they may in fact be Corse, or they could be a mix of CorseXVar. You'll know better as they grow.
