Just for clarity... who is the validating authority which decides these?
...and how long have these been valid for? I'll accept Testudo greaca... works for me. ...and what happened to Furculachelys nabeulensis... wait a minute... that's what is pictured... Quote:

You could just call it north african testudo graeca sp
Seems to be extremly hard even for the experts to know which sub species you have. Even within for examples tunisians you have big local varaties. So if you dont know where it comes from I think it is impossible to be sure which sub species you have. Br Anders Last edited by anol03; 08-01-2013 at 08:23 PM. |

Ofcourse that is not what I wrote.
I think most people can agree that if you have a t graeca it is difficult to know which sub species you have if you dont know the origin of the tortoise. I dont think that many people if any, know all the local variations of all the t.graeca.sp. Even people who named a few species have difficulties to be 100% sure which sub species you have without knowing the origin of the animal. I have to add that I am not an expert in any way. But I think there are bigger differances between h.h and h.b, dont think herc has been accepted as a separate sub species yet. Please correct me if I am wrong. Br Anders |

You look for one that has similar characteristics regardless of what it is called.
